The 2019 Ontario Labour Market Conference will delve into the rapidly changing labour market on an industry-by-industry basis. Participants will learn about the impact of technology, globalization, self-employment and gig employment as they relate to sectors such as construction, professional services, health care, social services, natural resources, trades, technology and creative occupations. All presenters will pay particular attention to the occupations which are growing, those which are declining and the skills essential to the future development of the sector.

Following this, we will provide an overview of the renewed focus the Province is bringing to labour market information and the restructuring of Employment Ontario.

Our morning break-out groups will focus on the three trends most impacting Ontario’s labour market: 1. Precarious Employment and the Gig-Economy; 2. Automation; and 3. Continuous Skills Development.

Lunch is included for all conference participants; (with vegetarian and glutton-free options).

Our afternoon session will begin with an exploration of the emerging trends in the social services sector. This will be followed by another set of break-out groups related to the three trends most impacting Ontario’s labour market. Afterwards, we will provide presentations on the health care, construction and education sectors.

We will conclude our first day with a panel discussion exploring the 2019 Federal Election labour market platforms of the Conservative, Green, Liberal and New Democrat parties.
